AIM The American Institute for Michaels

Monthly Recognition

Michael of the Month.

On the first of each calendar month, the Institute names a Michael of standing whose recent work or sustained example merits particular notice. The honor is small but the recognition is sincere.

II Archive

  1. April 2026

    Michael Hartnell

    Maritime electrician · Seattle chapter

For thirty-one years of continuous service aboard the M/V Spokane, and for organizing, in 2024, the Institute's first chartered convocation aboard a working passenger vessel.

  2. March 2026

    Mícheál Ó Conchúir

    Schoolmaster, retired · Dublin chapter

For having taught five separate Michaels who would, in due course, themselves go on to charter chapters of the Institute. The Dublin chapter's standing is, in no small measure, owed to him.

  3. February 2026

    Michael Park

Set decorator, motion pictures · Los Angeles chapter

For the donation of three filing cabinets of period-correct stationery from a film production thereby halted, which the Institute now uses for its more ceremonial correspondence.

  4. January 2026

    Michele Conti

    Pasticciere · Milan chapter

For the development of a small biscuit, modeled on the Institute's seal, served at every Milan chapter convening since 2023. The recipe is, by his insistence, not in the public archive.

  5. December 2025

    Michael Asante

    Civil engineer · Accra chapter

For locating, securing, and refurbishing the Accra chapter's present meeting room — formerly a colonial-era post office — and for doing so without any expectation of reimbursement from the Institute.

  6. November 2025

    Michał Kowalski

Conservator of paper · Warsaw chapter

For volunteer conservation work performed on three deteriorating volumes of the Institute's standing register, returned to working condition in his own studio.

III Nominations

Nominations are accepted from chapter coordinators and from any Michael in good standing. They should set out, in not more than five hundred words, the conduct or contribution that recommends the nominee, and should be transmitted in writing to the Recording Secretary at hello@michaelinstitute.org. The Recording Secretary makes the final selection in consultation with the President.
