Honorary Register
Honorary Michaels.
A small number of persons not bearing the given name Michael have, by special dispensation of the Board, been granted honorary status. The honor is conferred sparingly and only after extended deliberation.
I On the Honor
Honorary status is conferred under Article VII, §3 of the Institute's bylaws, which permits the Board "by two-thirds majority and after no fewer than two readings in open session" to extend the Institute's recognition to persons whose conduct, contribution, or character so plainly accords with the Institute's standards that the absence of the canonical given name is deemed an immaterial obstacle. Honorary Michaels enjoy all rights of the membership save the privilege of nominating new fellows.
